About
Bell Middle School in Golden, Colorado, was opened in 1962 and named after Gertrude Wheeler Bell, a Golden pioneer and educator. Bell attended the South School in Golden and graduated in 1904.
She began her teaching career in 1904 at the North School and later became the principal. She transferred to Mitchell Elementary School in 1941, where she taught until her retirement in 1959. Bell died in 1963 at the age of 87, and the new middle school was opened and dedicated to her that same year.
Bell is the only neighborhood middle school serving the Golden community. A point of pride: Generations of Golden citizens continue to matriculate through Bell into Golden High School.
