About
Bell Middle School in Golden, Colorado, was opened in 1963 and named after Gertrude Wheeler Bell, a Golden pioneer and educator. Bell attended the South School in Golden and graduated in 1904.
She began her teaching career in 1904 at the North School and later became the principal. She transferred to Mitchell Elementary School in 1941, where she taught until her retirement in 1959. Bell died in 1963 at the age of 87, and the new middle school was opened and dedicated to her that same year.
In 1994, Bell Middle School underwent a major remodeling and addition. A two-story classroom addition, a larger library and a new office space were added to the existing building. The school is located on a 27-acre site and serves students in sixth to eighth grade.
Bell Middle School is a vital part of the Golden community and has a long history of providing students with a quality education, including two unique academic pathways: ISTEM and Humanities.
