Individualized Career & Academic Plan (ICAP)

ICAP at Bell Middle School

ICAPs help guide Bell students and families in exploring career, academic and postsecondary opportunities.

The mission of Jeffco Public Schools is to provide a quality education that prepares all students for a successful future. Each student will have an Individual Career and Academic Plan mapping out progress toward completing high school successfully and making meaningful career decisions.

Creating this plan is a partnership between the student, parents and school staff. Questions regarding this process can be directed to your student's counselor. To complete this plan, Bell Middle School utilizes the tool Naviance. You and your student can go to the Naviance website and log on to view the plan.

Families

Career exploration is an ongoing process that begins in sixth grade and follows students through 12th grade.

  • Students may collaborate with their parents to review, revise and edit their ICAPS at any time.
  • We encourage parents to be a part of this process.
  • Counselors will be in classrooms throughout the year to help students develop their ICAPS.
  • Students are expected to share their ICAP with their parents.
  • Students will continue to work on their plans through middle school and into high school in preparation for post-secondary activities.

Individualized Career & Academic Plan (ICAP) in Jeffco

The Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) is a multi-year process that intentionally guides students and families in the exploration of career, academic and postsecondary opportunities. With the support of adults, students develop the awareness, knowledge, attitudes and skills to create their own meaningful and powerful pathways to be career and college-ready.

When students complete a meaningful ICAP process, they:

  • Connect the relevance of education to future aspirations.
  • Are more motivated to attend school and stay engaged.
  • Become confident learners who can actively set goals.
  • Make secondary and postsecondary course plans to pursue career and life goals.
  • Are able to articulate their transferable skills and apply knowledge about how their actions today connect with their goals.
